HONORARY DISTINCTION
Hon.CPE

Vivekananda Patra

Country: India

I generally remember the moments and not the days. The moment I clicked a shutter for the first time in my life during my school days is still shining in my memory. Since that moment I had a strong will to have a camera of my own. But my father`s income was too little to provide me with such a thing of non- essential commodity in spite of his best willingness. And it is this financial inability that always prompted my inner- will to have it at the earliest opportunity by any honest mean. So no wonder getting the first salary from my service in 1981 I rushed to an old Kolkata based  camera store and got my own Agfa Click. When I came out of the store with my new possession, my feeling at that very moment was just like the flying bird above my head that was floating freely in that afternoon sky spreading its two colorful wings. I did not miss the opportunity to capture it. Afterwards I got Konica Big Finder, Canon Power Shot.

Though I still believe that it is not the camera but the eyes and finger of the man behind it that capture the image of beauty, I was feeling some sort of difficulties with digital Canon Power Shot. That is why I got Canon 1200D later on. I have no hesitation to confess that at that time I clicked shutters just like quake physicians without knowing the anatomy of a camera, though some of my photographs of that time attracted the attention of some of the leading photographers. This prompted me to have some basics of photography. I am fortunate enough to have my beloved Ajoyda (Mr. Ajoy Kumar Mukhopadhyay) who brought me to learned teachers like Mr. Aparesh Sarkar, Mr. Shyamal Kumar Roy, Mr. Subrata Kumar Das and last but not the least Mr. Tapas Basu. The more I was learning from my teachers, more I became interested in the wonders of photography world and I began to smile gazing at my images that I snapped earlier.
I am still a student of photography and want to be so till my last breath is out. And my joy knows no bound when my son with his limited income surprised me with Nicon 7500 as a gift on account of my AFIP & AFIAP Distinctions last year.
Now while I am on the way to EFIAP, I have also been making every effort to get more and more junior as well as senior friends of mine attracted towards this beautiful medium of art and creativity. I feel extremely happy and proud to be attached with one of the leading photography clubs “Lens & Life of Dumdum” which is always engaged in developing photography not only in West Bengal but throughout India by arranging Salon, Seminar, Webinar etc.
