He made his first steps in b/w photography using personal techniques: remove photo emulsion from the resin coated polycontrast papers, toning with different methods b/w prints with copper sulphate toner and creative color slides and color prints from b/w negatives (by conversion to the high contrast positive films sized 10X12,5cm and coloring these with b/w toners, Colorvir system, Ecoline colors or digitally by the computer). His photographic techniques were included in two books of Prof. Grigoris Vlassas ESFIAP, (“Photographic Techniques”- 2003, and “Studies in Artistic Photography and Audiovisual Arts”- 2003) who is a professor at the Photography Department of the Technological Institute of Athens.

He started his international career in 1991 and till now his over one thousand photographic works (b/w and colour print, and slides) were accepted in the International Photo Salons. His works was awarded over hundred different prizes (Cup, Medals, and awards) and with Honor Mentions. He has presented his work in four individual Exhibitions: in the city of Oradea in Romania (1997), in Budapest Hungary (2001), in Taipei Taiwan (2004) and in Lishui, China (2005) and in Beijing in the Exhibition ‘Exhibitions of Presidents of Photography Societies from ten countries”(2014). Since 1997-2016 he has participated, with other Greek photographers, over 50 International Exhibitions in His photos are in the Museums: in the “Museum of the Hellenism of Canada in Ottawa”  (since 1999), in the “Photography Museum of Photographic Founds of the Agrupacio Foto-Cine Cerdanyola Ripolet” of  Cerdanyola del Valles of the Catalunya of  Spain (since 2000), and in the “Photographic Art of  Five Continents Collection” in Cegled, Hungary (since 2000). His photos were published and printed in  FIAP Photo Salons  catalogues and other International Photo Salons catalogues, photo magazines, newspapers, posters. 
For the above mentioned international activities, International Photographic Federations, Societies and Clubs honored him with 43 Photographic honorary titles. The FIAP honored him seven times (from 1994-2015), and recently with EFIAP/platinum. He is the first Greek photographer that FIAP honored with the three additional EFIAP levels. The Photographic Society of America (PSA) honored him six times (1996-2000) The Image Sans Frontiere honored him five times (1998-2003) and lately with the title Hercule ISF. The Global Photographic Union (GPU) honored him five times (2016) Also, he was honored by Hellenic Photographic Society (2016) and ICS by the Master ICS (2016)
Spyros Iatropoulos is a member of the Hellenic Photography Society (HPS) since 1988. He was elected in the managing committee as a member (1994-95), as Administrator (1995-1996), as Superintendent (1997-98), General Superintendent (1999-2002). Since 2011 he is the President of the Society.
