Peter Gedeon

Born in 1955 in Pecs, Hungary, Peter Gedeon earned an M.Sc. and M.F.A. equivalent in photography. He is a professional photographer, artist, educator, publisher, gallery director, and promoter of photography and figurative art. He is a contributor to 31 books, 33 periodicals, and many special publications on four continents. Gedeon's works are in private and corporate collections, both nationally and internationally. (ICP, New York, NYC; Lanslebourg, France; Miskolc, Debrecen, Cegled, Hungary, and Boca Raton, FL) He has published 3 books and has had more than 30 major solo exhibitions in Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Romania, and the USA. In more than 300 group exhibitions in 48 countries, he has won more than 150 international and close to 100 major national prizes. He has also been honored with the AFIAP title (Artist of the Federation Internationale del’Art Photographique, Paris, France) in 2008, and the EFIAP title (Excellence of FIAP) in 2010, the Bronze Exhibitor Title (BEPSS) in 2017 by the Photographic Society of Singapore, the Gold Exhibitor (GAPU) title by the Asian Photographers Union, Singapore, the Honorary title by Campina Photographic Exhibitions (Hon. CPE), Romania, and the Fellow of Asian Photographers Union (FAPU) title in 2020. His biography has been included in the printed versions of Marquis'; Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Art, and Who’s Who in the World.

At the age of 16, he had his decisive moment in photography when he saw an awarded photograph of the Orwo-Pentacon International Photography Competition and became inspired by it. At 17, one of his color slides received 2nd place in the Hungarian Highschool-students’ National Competition. At 25, he became the youngest member of the Association of Hungarian Photographers/Photo-artists and the Association of Hungarian Creative Artist. After the Berlin Wall came down and political situations got slightly more liberated in the "Eastern Block", Peter was among the first to organize an independent photography organization. That is how the Disosgyor Visual Art Guild was born. Peter as a founding member became the first president of the group, which quickly earned an international reputation. After his one-man show in Vancouver, Canada in 1992, he settled down in Florida, consequently became a US citizen, and has resided there since his arrival.  His photographer career, both in Hungary and in the US, was marked and highlighted by many different photography related and cultural activities. Volunteering in all possible positions in different organizations as a founding member, president, advisor, art-director, and exhibition coordinator and fundraiser.
Currently, he is an adjunct professor, teaching photography at State College of Florida in Bradenton, Florida.
