INTERNATIONAL JUDGING
He was invited in the month of August 2009 in Vietnam to participate in Examiners Board of the 5th International Contest and Exhibition on Artistic Photos – “VN-09”. This was organized by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA) with recognition of FIAP.
In September 2012, he was invited in SRI LANKA as a Member of Jury of 3rd International Exhibition organized by NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PHOTOGRAPHERS -SRI LANKA.
BANGLADESH SOCEITY OF PHOTOGRAPHIC ART also invited him as a Judge for BSPA 1st International Photography Competition & Exhibition, 2014.
Apart from all these, he was the judge in STATE LALIT KALA AKADEMI, LUCKNOW, U.P & NATIONAL PHOTO CONTEST organized by Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of INDIA.
By developing himself to such an extent to a certain degree, he has also found his place as a JUDGE in several National and International Salons & Competitions around INDIA.
In the year 2015, he was the Jury Member of the Photography Competition organized by the Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of Manipur.
In 2018 he was selected as a JURY MEMBER for PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION “RUN for ART” organised by The Giulio Onesti Foundation of Italy, a non-profit organization, seeks to combine art and sports, creating an international exhibition that is able to express the fundamental values of sport on the 5 continents.
AN INTRO
Born in 1961, MADHU SARKAR was still in his tender teens when he identified photography as the medium of his artistic expressions. His early exposure to various forms of art and their exponents influenced and nurtured the seeds of artistry that was already within. And over the years, his relentless efforts towards mastering his chosen medium have made him a creative photographer of repute.
Crises are nothing unusual in an artist’s life. And a significant phase of MADHU SARKAR’S career is marked by an intense struggle against severe odds. But refusing to resign, he stood resolute against the tricks of circumstances. This reinforced his confidence and sharpened his insight into life like the edge of a razor, teaching him to draw from the vast reservoir of strength and inspiration latent in him.
The photographic works of MADHU SARKAR are characterized by a unique blend of gloom and grandeur, captured adroitly by the artist’s remarkable sense of form and content. Photographed with a burning passion and spontaneity, his creations are a true reflection of his times, interpreted and coloured in the light of his own subjectivity.
Influenced particularly by socio-political turbulence in West Bengal in the 1970s, his repertoire represents one of the finest portrayals of the strange fear and pathos that arise out of the struggle between human sensibilities and a rapidly changing ideology. MADHU SARKAR has successfully made use of some striking surrealistic imageries. Often transcending the parameters of grammar and attempting to explore beyond the limits of ordinary human consciousness.
Art is that form of emotional sensation where we can always enjoy and grasp it’s beauty and depth even in the absence of the artist. The spirit of that particular form of art quickly gives us a sense of ecstasy, which is beyond explanation. True art never goes without a quick sense of spiritual quality. And after visualizing a form of art we can always immediately come to know about a particular society that is, its creative entity and its artists. The profundity of a society is related to its art and creativity.
His media is photography. Like all other visual art there is no exception depending on seeing things in a fresh way and then being able to transform his awareness into the final image with sufficient skill to realize his vision.
The essence of photography is in the expression of emotions like any other art, which has no limitations. He also expresses those emotions, which share with the mass, and not those which are his own emotions; and he is well aware that he is not only a communicator; he is concerned with something else.
The real desire to create something has to be distinguished from the desire to create something with a hidden and disguised communicative potential. The Photo-Artist says what the mass want to say, but are unable to do so without his aid. In this sense his relation to the mass is not merely a by-product of his aesthetic experience but an integral part of this experience itself.
This is something more than communication from him to the mass; this is collaboration with his beholder that is his “CREATIVITY”.
CREATIVE ACHIVEMENTS
Soft spoken and inwardly directed, MADHU SARKAR loves to let his works, which have won him accolades in countries like Austria, France, U.K, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Romania, Croatia etc.
He has also received several National and International Awards, and has over 1000 acceptances in National and International salons to his credit.

Then again he received the FIRST AWARD from Ministry Of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India in the year 1998. Pusan Korea Award (1992), All Japan Award (1992 & 2006), Bangladesh International Award (1997), World Bamboo Congress (2004), Croatia Gold Medal Prizes For The COLLECTION (2006) is a few recognitions for his extraordinary talent and dedication besides countless others.
AKADEMI AWARD
STATE LALIT KALA AKADEMI, LUCKNOW, Uttar Pradesh, INDIA has awarded AKADEMI AWARD to Madhu Sarkar in the year 2007.
CONTRIBUTION
He was the first editor of a Bengali Photographic Magazine named “PHOTOGRAPHY CHARCHAA”.
Another trait of his personality is he has a conspicuous writing skill about photography, not only in the Technical Field but also in the aspect of Visual Art. And there he is highly innovative and he has some appropriate direction towards the development as well as promotion of photography in the form of visual language.
He did as Director-Photographer of a production of CALCUTTA DOORDARSHAN of a very famous drama of Sukumar Ray’s OBAAK JOLPAAN – Mr. Satyajit Ray & Mr. Mrinal Sen, the Internationally famed Film Directors, highly praised the quality of MADHU SARKAR’s STILL DRAMA “OBAAK JOLPAAN”.
Apart from many other Audio-visuals done by MADHU SARKAR, was an interesting Audio-Visual named RABI BABUR GAN BANAM RABINDRA SANGEET – a unique production of Mr.Partha Ghosh – the great elocutionist.
And also did a documentary film on Conservation of Forests & Wildlife in West Bengal produced by Forest Dept., Government of West Bengal.
Always his direction is in a straight line; otherwise he would have been marked by shunts and detours. Actually, since his childhood, he strived for the realization of his creative attitude along a direct line, and developed a courageous character.
He also delivered lectures and demonstrating Visual Art through the medium of photography in different Photographic Clubs and Societies all over INDIA & ABROAD.
In addition to all these, he is one of the Faculty Members of different Photographic Workshops, which are organised by different Institutions.
To share his experiences with his vast literacy on Visual Art & Communication, he founded NATIONAL ACADEMY OF PHOTOGRAPHY (NAP) where he conducts Workshop based Intensive Courses on Photography in the year 2003.

In this endeavor, Madhu Sarkar’s brain storm is to arrive at aesthetically and logically sound concepts about Professional as well as Creative Photography.
He is the Founder & Hony. Chairman of PERSONA-International, an International Photography Club, A Home of Image Makers. And a regular interaction with the eminent Personalities with an inclusion of publishing a periodical “Communiqué” based on Visual Communication and Digital Art. His ideas and improvisation of his creative media gives an unlimited wisdom to his students.
PERSONA - International, THE HOME OF IMAGE MAKERS, is constructed under the watchful eye of NATIONAL ACADEMY OF PHOTOGRAPHY. This club is a means of expression for the talent that yearns to sprout from within you. Its primary concern is to love photography as a self-expression media or as a profession. However, the club promotes photography as a powerful art form and share one’s artistic as well aesthetic experiences. To Encourage & Promote Photographic Art and to Honour the Creative Personalities in the Field of Photography.
NAP & PERSONA-International, THE HOME OF IMAGE MAKERS, has created the some Distinctions for Photo-Artists of across the world for their artistic work and for the Contribution towards Creative Photography.
And above all, his most distinguished contribution is “THE WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY DAY EXHIBITION”.
19th August is a very Special Day for Photographers.
The Photography Process was bought by the French Government and given free to the world on 19th August, 1839. This day is celebrated as The World Photography Day throughout.
He is firstly introduced in Eastern India an Invited International Exhibition of Photography to observe THE WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY DAY in the year 2005.
This is a huge Exhibition where he bears the Cost of Print and Frame of all Photographs of Invited Photo-Artists. And around 15000 to 20000 foot-fall in 5 or 7 days Exhibition.
This Exhibition Has Granted and Awarded several times of
FEDERATION INTERNATIONALE de l’ ART PHOTOGRAPHIQUE (FIAP) as “FIAP Auspices” & IMAGE COLLEAGUE SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL (ICS) of USA as “ICS Auspices”
His primary intention is to aware mass about the Photographic Art and also promote FIAP & ICS.
The Exhibition is basically to educate people about Photographic Art where they can understand the different Culture, Religion, Cast & Creed, Human Interests, Landscapes, Portraits and Nature & Wildlife around the World.
Now a days, many Photographic Clubs, Organisations are observing THE WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY DAY in their stature around INDIA as well as Abroad.
And this is another Success of Madhu Sarkar’s thought process.
Apart from this, he also organise a Seminar among the students of NATIONAL ACADEMY OF PHOTOGRAPHY on Activities of FIAP & ICS and also DISTINCTIONS of FIAP & ICS.
He also organises other yearly Exhibitions with the Students of NAP & the Members of PERSONA-International like HEY! BOISHAKH! – to Celebrate Bengali New Years Day.
Another ambitious Exhibition on THE INTERNATIONAL TIGER DAY.
29th July is the INTERNATIONAL TIGER DAY. It was created in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit. The goal of the day is to promote a global system for Protecting the Natural Habitats of Tigers and to raise Public Awareness and Support for Tiger Conservation issues.
Bengal tiger is the keystone species of the Indian jungles and our National Animal.
NAP & PERSONA-International organised an Exhibition on the Photographs of NAP Students of Tigers to aware mass for Conservation of Tigers.
There are many other Photographic Activities to encourage NAP Students through Workshops & Competitions.
He is also organising Contests on major Rituals & Festivals of INDIA among the NAP Students which is Granted and Awarded as “ICS Auspices”
An yearly INTER PHOTO CONTEST also held among the NAP Students which is judged by International Judges of Different Countries which is also Granted and Awarded as “ICS Auspices”
And there are many more Activities and Contributions towards Photography…
All these are for Promotion for Photography among the New Generation Photographers as well as Mass.
“The social and emotional feeling towards life with striving for power also plays a great role in our life. Owing to this fact, he has some ideas and imaginations to Promote Photography as Visual Art.”
PROFESSIONAL ACHIVEMENTS
Introducing MADHU SARKAR as a Professional Photographer is working in the field of Advertising and Industrial Photography. Some distinguished clients are Lintas-India, O & M, Euro-RSCG, Rediffusion-D.Y & R, R.K.Swamy, etc., handling the photographic jobs of PHILIPS, ICI, ITC, SHAW WALLACE, MODI TELSTRA, COMMAND, etc.
Even he is in for Model Photography, Food & Fashion for various magazines & clients according to their necessities.
Apart from this, he had a Black & White and a Colour Laboratory (Manual) where he is doing enlargements manually for Exhibition works for different clients.
To extend upon him we must say that he did exhibition jobs organised by RITWIK MEMORIAL TRUST & NANDAN, SATYAJIT RAY ARCHIVE & NANDAN, and FOREST DEPT. Govt. of West Bengal and so on . . .
HIS FEELING
He has some awareness programme about Nature & Environment.
His philosophy is "We the human beings are the product of NATURE and EMOTION".
He is impulse badly by the different pollutions in our nature as well as society, that’s why, he would like to aware mass about a pollution free life-style.
And above all he retains sufficient initiative to look for another approach if the first attempt proves inadequate.
Basically, he has an attitude of searching --- search towards life, search towards human nature and has a marked degree of understanding his tasks and problems directly.
And also he can look straight in his own field and to speak the truth,
the truth of life as well as death . . .
The Visual Art requires the capacity for lateral thinking together with recognition that
the Creative Process is a State of Continuous Flux.
