Amitabha Sil was born in Calcutta in the year 1954. He was very interested in Photography since his childhood. Initially he started Photography with Zenith Camera in 1975. In 1980 he purchased Asahi Pentax K-1000 camera. And ultimately he switched over to Digital Camera (Nikon D-90) in 2010. Now He is using Nikon D-7000 Camera along with.  2. In 1973, obtained Graduation in Chemistry (Hons.) from University of Calcutta. 3. Retired from Allahabad Bank in 2014 after giving a long 38 years of service as a banker. 4.  Had encouraged a many Photographic clubs to organize International exhibitions. Most of them are successfully organizing International exhibitions till date. 5. Has been a guiding beacon to many young and perseverant  photographers to receive due photographic distinctions. 6. Had organized successfully 33 uninterrupted consecutive yearly Inter Club Contests on behalf of the National Body of Photography (Federation of International Photography - FIP) from 1986  to 2018 as a Divisional Secretary. It is a record etched in the history of the Federation. 7. Was elected as one of the Working Committee members in 1995 for the first time. Since then he dedicated his services as one of the Working Committee Members up to 2012. In 2013 he has been elected as Hon. Treasurer of FIP. Previously there was no separate post of Hon. Treasurer. Before 2013 it was tagged with Hon. General Secretary (i. e. Hon. Secretary General and Treasurer). So he is the First independent  Hon. Treasurer of the Federation - FIP and continued till 2016 (2 terms back to back) successfully.  8. In 2017 he had been elected as Vice President of the Federation of Indian Photography (FIP) and continued up to 2018 until his term expires. 9. In 1982 he was the key person to singlehandedly organize the very 1st All India Bank Employees Photographic Exhibition to promote art of photography among the bank employees of India.

10. In 1984 he was entrusted to organize the very 1st All India Mountain Photography exhibition to promote art photography amidst the mountaineers and trekkers of India.  
11. He is one of the Founder members of Chhayapath Photographic Club (estd. in 1983) in Kolkata, one of the active photographic club of India. Under his Secretaryship, Chhayapath, Calcutta organized 1st Digital International exhibition with FIAP & PSA recognition in 2010 .
12. He used his spare time after being a banker, to give masterly lectures on numerous topics of photography in several Workshops, Seminars as well as Photographic classes of young talents to promote the art of photography.
13. He has been acting as Jury of different exhibitions since 1988. So far judging credit goes to 307 International Exhibitions and 202 National Exhibitions and or Photographic Competition.
14. He pioneered Monochrome Infra-Red art photography in 1980 for the first time in India.
15. He organized an All India Photographic Conference in Salt Lake, Calcutta to promote the Art of Photography in 1990. Although it was an All India Conference but several delegates from Bangladesh attended and made it a successful Photographic Conference.
16. His ten photographs along with his profile published in the “FOTOKINO” magazine of Denmark in December, 1984.
17. SEPETR Club of Republic of Belarus (previously U.S.S.R) invited his works for exhibiting in 1992.
18. His photographs had been invited from Malaysia  for exhibition of “WORLD’S TOP PHOTOGRAPHERS” works in 2006 and 2016.
19. So far he had acquired 3562 International acceptances from 60 different countries & 505 National acceptance
20. Till date he had received 302 awards from International and National exhibitions.
